Neurotoxin wrinkle relaxers are known by their drug names Botox® Cosmetic, Dysport®, Juveau®, Xeomin® and Daxxify®. Most people know the first product Botox® Cosmetic as it was the first one used for this cosmetic purpose and has the most widely recognized name. For good reason, it works and works well. So much so that other competitive products have been released that are similar and have the same effects as Botox® Cosmetic on reducing wrinkles.
There are a few people that over years of getting injections don’t respond as well to Botox® Cosmetic anymore (the same can happen with any of the other products too) that switching to a different product may produce better or longer lasting results. However, all these products are derivatives of the same molecule and thus work similarly to Botox® Cosmetic. None of the products is an exact replica of the other, they all have differences in the molecule and dosing. Daxxify® is the newest product available and is FDA-cleared to produce a longer lasting result.
We offer more than one FDA Approved option for neurotoxin wrinkle relaxing injections, but most people prefer Botox® Cosmetic. The procedure is the same regardless of what product is used. Tiny needles are used to inject small amounts of the drug into the muscles identified on your forehead or crows feet areas that are causing movement and making wrinkles more visible. After just a few days you’ll notice that moving these muscles is limited and you’ll see a smoothing effect in the treated areas with less visible wrinkles even when you aren’t moving your face.
How Do Neurotoxin Wrinkle reducers Work?
Muscle movements on the face from frowning, squinting, smiling, furrowing your brows together and raising your brows occur all day every day. These repeated movements build the muscle strength and cause facial lines to appear, which can stay even if your face is fully relaxed. This is all part of aging and is natural. But there is something that can be done to minimize the appearance of those lines. Neurotoxin injections are placed directly into the small moving muscles. This causes the muscle to not be able to move as much for a temporary time. Once the muscle movements are limited, the lines will smooth out and disappear.
Visible smoothing of the lines begins to appear in 24 to 48 hours after injections and continues to improve over the next two weeks. Effects of neurotoxin injections is temporary, gradually wearing off over approximately 3 months. Repeated injections over time can usually cause the muscles that cause the movement wrinkles to atrophy (get smaller). Facial lines that are visible even when you aren’t moving your face will reduce over time with repeated neurotoxin wrinkle reducer injections. Lines that are visible only when moving the muscles of the face will be significantly less visible with just one treatment.

Neurotoxin wrinkle relaxers have been used safely for many years. Cosmetic injectors are physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants or in some cases RNs. For cosmetic injections to be performed properly, formal training courses are required specifically to use these products and get the best results. What areas can be treated with Neurotoxin wrinkle reducers?
The most common areas neurotoxin wrinkle relaxers are injected are the forehead, glabella (the area between the brows) and crows feet on the outer corners of the eyes. Additional areas that can be relaxed to produce different results include the bunny lines at the top of the nose and the chin to reduce and soften this area. Another area is a lip flip, when neurotoxins are injected just above the upper lip causing it to flip upwards. The masseter muscles in front of your ears along the jawline can be treated to slim the face and make you look more sculpted along with reducing clenching your jaw or grinding your teeth as an added benefit. One of the newest areas of interest is what’s called TrapTox or BarbieTox. This is injecting neurotoxin into the trapezius muscles at the base of the neck to relax and give you a more elongated neck.
